Operating Garage Doors and Gates
Treating your garage door or gate and automatic openers to an annual service, just like you would your motor vehicle, will help avoid costly repairs and ensures you will get the maximum life span and safety out of your products. DO’S
- Do install a wall switch or wall-mounted transmitter in close proximity to your garage door, which is out of reach of children.
- Do keep loose clothing, feet and hands clear of the door and operating equipment at all times.
- Do make sure the door is in the full up position before driving in or out of the garage. Also ensure the door is fully closed before leaving the driveway.
- Do frequently examine the garage door—in particular cables, mountings and springs for signs of wear, damage or imbalance. Should there be any problems, call our office as soon as possible.
- Do frequently examine the gate, in particular wearing on the closing stops, closing position and ease of closing. Should there be any problems, call us.
- Do educate users, especially children, that gate systems generally move at a controlled pace i.e. there is some form of warning, unlike the wind catching your front door. It is best, however, to ensure that everyone is clear of the gate when the opener is being used.
- Do have your door/gate serviced annually to make sure that everything is working safely and at its optimum level.
- Do make sure that your remote controls are kept out of reach of children.
DO NOT’S
- Do not allow children to operate or play with the garage door/gate opener.
- Do not operate the garage door/gate opener when people or animals are nearby. Children must be supervised near a garage door/gate at all times when the opener is in use.
- Do not switch the door opener to manual operation while there are people or motor vehicles in the door way.
- Do not attempt to repair the door yourself. The hardware is under extreme tension and could cause serious damage to yourself or others if the repair is done poorly. Speak to us today for rapid emergency repairs.
- Do not attempt to repair the gate operator yourself.
- Do not try and push the gate open/closed when the opener is engaged.
